Preparing
External Drive to Use for the Clone
If you want to prepare an external drive to use for the clone,
then you need to follow the instructions given below.
- First of all, you have to hook up the
external drive into a suitable port on the Mac.
- Then you should help the Spotlight to find
the Disk Utility application.
- You have to twice click on Disk Utility
application to launch it.
- Locate the hard drive beneath External
& choose it.
- Navigate to the Erase button at the upper
part of the screen.
- Thereafter you will give a name your
drive.
- Go to the format list & choose macOS
Extended (Journaled).
- Then click on Erase.
- When the process is finished, click on
Done.
- Now, you have to exit the Disk Utility
screen.
Create a Clone
of the MacBook
You need to create a clone of the Mac, follow the steps

- Get started by going to the Spotlight to
find the SuperDuper! Application.
- Then you have to twice click on
SuperDuper! to launch it.
- Navigate to the drop-down section near to
“Copy” & choose Mac’s hard drive.
- Go to the drop-down section near to “to”
& choose the external hard drive.
- Ensure that Backup- all files are chosen
in the drop-down section near to “using” (Backup – user files does not
create a bootable clone).
- Thereafter you should click on Copy Now to
start the process.
- When the prompt comes, input the
Administrator password.
- When it asked to verify that you would
like to remove the external hard drive & copy data to it from the
MacBook.
- When the procedure is finished, click on,
OK.
Restoring
MacBook from a Clone
If you want to restore MacBook from a clone, then you need to follow
the instructions given below.
- To get started, you have to shut down your
MacBook.
- Then you should hook up the external drive
into the suitable port on the MacBook.
- Thereafter turn on the MacBook.
- You have to press Cmd & R keys as
quickly as Mac reboots to enter Recovery Mode. MacBook will startup to the
macOS utility window.
- Navigate to the Disk Utility & then
click on continue.
- Later, you should choose the hard drive.
- Go to the Disk Utility screen & select
the Restore option.
- You have to choose the external drive near
“Restore From.”
- Choose Mac’s hard drive near to “Restore
to.”
- Now, click on Restore.
- After the backup has completed restoring,
reboot the computer.
