How to Find and Change your DLink Wireless Router Password
Changing password with times ensures your device’s security.
Most people change their router’s password from time to time. This keeps their
device secure as well as away from unnecessary connections. Some routers have a
default password that you should change when you set it up for the first time.
If you didn’t change your router’s password, anyone could get access to it
without doing anything. You can easily change the password of your DLink router
from the router’s configuration page. You need to log in to the configuration
page in a browser then go to Wireless Settings menu and enter the new password
you want to use. Here is how to find and change your DLink wireless router
password.
How to access your DLink router from a browser
You can use the browser of any device connected to your DLink
router. Using a computer linked with the Ethernet cable is best, as this will
not lose connection like wireless devices.
1. Open a browser on your connected device.
2. Enter the address “192.168.0.1” into the
top search field. Mostly DLink routers use this address.
3. If the address given in Step 2 won’t work,
use “192.168.1.1”, it is the standard address for many routers.
4. Enter ‘http://dlinkrouter” into the address
bar if none of the above address works. This is the hostname works in new
routers.
5. If nothing works, find your router’s
address using your computer. Router’s address can be easily found under
“Network and Sharing Center” in Windows computer and Network section on Mac.
To check your DLink router address in Windows PC:
• Open ‘Start.’
• Open ‘Settings’.
• Right click on the ‘Network’ icon.
• And select ‘Open Network and Sharing
Center.’
• Select the ‘Connections’ link to the active
connection from the top of the screen.
• Click on Details. Here is your router’s
address.
To check your DLink router address in Mac:
• Click the ‘Apple’ icon.
• Select ‘System Preferences.’
• Then click on ‘Network.’
• Select the active network connection.
• Click on the ‘Advanced’ button.
• Open ‘TCP/IP’ tab. Here is your router’s
address.
After accessing your router’s configuration page in the browser,
you need to login into it.
Steps for signing in:
1. Type ‘Admin’ in the field next to Username.
It is the common username used for DLink routers.
2. Do not enter anything in the password box.
Most of the DLink routers don’t have any password.
3. If it fails to log in with a blank
password, try using ‘admin’ as password and proceed.
4. If both “blank” and “admin” password do not
allow you to log in, find the login information of your router’s model. You
need to go to ‘www.routerpasswords.com’ > choose ‘DLink’ from the options
> then find and select your router model from the list. You’ll see login username
as well as password. Use this login information to sign in to your router.
5. If none of the above tricks allows you to
log in, try this one.
• Find the ‘Reset’ button at the back of your
router.
• Press and hold it down for about 30 seconds.
• Now, your router will reboot.
• Wait for a minute to restart your router.
• Once it restarts, you’ll be able to login
with the default information.
How to change your DLink wireless router password
After logging in, go with the below instructions to change the
password.
1. Open the ‘Wireless’ tab from the top of the
home page. If the ‘Wireless’ tab doesn’t appear, then you may need to click
‘Setup’ first and then choose ‘Wireless Settings’ from the left column.
2. Click on the ‘Security Mode’ option.
3. From the ‘Wireless Security Mode:’ options
select ‘Enable WPA2 Wireless Security’. Choosing this option to secure your
DLink router more and protect your network.
4. Now, click the field next to ‘Pre-Shared
Key’ (or Passphrase).
5. Enter the password of your choice, but make
sure it should be strong and not easy to guess.
6. Retype the same password into the ‘Confirm
Passphrase’ field.
7. Then click ‘Save Settings’ button at the bottom
of the popup.
When you complete these steps, all the devices connected to your
router will disconnect. Now, use your new password to connect them again.
